Shelva Jean Pingley, 80, of Shenandoah County, Virginia, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Envoy of Staunton.
Ms. Pingley was born in 1936 in Woodstock, Virginia, the daughter of the late Noah and Fannie Swartz. She was a homemaker in her own home raising her sons and daughters. Ms. Pingley enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions, involved with numerous charities and always giving to families in need. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and will be missed by so many. She was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are daughters, Mildred Lauck, Sherry Krippner, and Rhonda Dove; sons, Fred McFarland, Jr. and wife, Barbara and John Pingley and wife, Theresa; grandchildren, Chester Kidwell, William Linaburg, Freddie McFarland, Jessica McFarland, Stephanie Hawley, Karen Bowers, and Samantha Barlow; sisters, Helen Mowrey and Betty Bowers; brother, Charles “Jim” Swartz; four great grandsons and six great granddaughters.
Ms. Pingley was preceded in death by a grandchild, Jeffrey Barr; brothers, Harold, Jack, Calvin, and Ralph Swartz; her loving companion of more than 30 years, Charlie Dove; and her beloved rat terrier Chihauhua, Baby.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A graveside service will be at 11 am on Friday at Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Mike Mayton officiating.
