Sharon Lowery McKay, 51, of Winchester, Virginia went to be with the Lord on January 9th, 2021 after a battle with cancer. Preceding her in death are her parents, Mary Lowery and Earl Lowery Sr., and several aunts and uncles. Treasured memories live on with her family: husband, Matt McKay, children Emily Roy (Levi Roy), Nick Hill, Matthew McKay, grandson, Cohen Roy and her dog, Cooper. Our hearts are broken for the loss of our beautiful wife, mother, and grandma, but she will continue to be loved and treasured not only by us, but also her siblings Donna Hensley (Joe Hensley), Karen Dellinger (Laddie Dellinger), Buddy Lowery (Trish Lowery), father Bugs Milhon (Tina Milhon), numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends who have always been more like family.

Sharon will be remembered for her love of shopping at Target, passion for Starbucks coffee, and commitment to walking Cooper countless miles each day. Above all, her legacy lies in showing her love for the people in her life. She thrived at being the rock for our family, the listening ear when anyone needed it, the sound advice when we sought guidance, and the supportive hands always there to capture us in an embrace. Her kindness radiated throughout the community, as she was a true supporter of youth events and extra-curricular activities. We will forever miss the joy she emitted constantly, and the happiness that was tangible when she was around. Although she is not with us, she will continue to remain a positive light in our lives, as well as in those she came to know.

The family will be holding a private service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at a later date for a memorial scholarship fund in her name to continue supporting youth extracurricular programs. We ask that you help us honor Sharon’s legacy by tipping your waitstaff well and always sharing your love with those important to you every morning and night.

It's been more than a week since I was shocked to learn of Sharon's death, and I have thought of her much since then. Not because we were close friends, but because she has existed alongside my earliest memories from Robinson Elementary. As a fellow petite gal, Sharon seemed very kind and gentle, but apparently transformed into a fierce fighter when necessary. I was so impressed by her fighting spirit and stamina (and her workout bod--it gives me hope to follow her example). When I moved back "home" a few years ago, we messaged a few times and considered meeting up, but we never did--and now I am sorry for that missed opportunity. She will never know how much her life--and now sudden death--has impacted me in both big and small ways--and I'm not sure why, exactly. It just has, and I will remember her for many years to come. Last week, I generously tipped a hardworking waitress in Sharon's honor, as her family instructed, and I will endeavor to do that more in her memory. I am sorry for the loss of her presence here among us, especially for her loving family and friends, but I am glad that her cancer battle is over and that she has experienced victory with her Savior. Rest well, Sharon.

My dear sweet niece I will love and miss you forever. You were way to young to leave us. Now your out of pain and can watch over your family from Heaven. My heart goes out to your husband children and grand son who you loved with everything you had. You were so special with a smile that lit up a room no matter how bad you felt you were smiling. I love you and told you every time we talked or texted and I’ll love you forever. RIP Peanut ??

I am shocked and saddened by the news of Peanut’s passing. My fondest childhood memories are those I shared with her. I met Sharon when I worked at Carrabba’s in Winchester and since that day, I have loved her bubbly, smiling, contagious personality that just rubs off on you when you see her. Matt and Sharon were my favorite people to talk to and it made me so happy when they came in! We stayed friends even after I left Carrabba’s and continued to keep in touch. McKay family, I’m so so sorry for your loss and I hope you know I’m here, whatever you and your family need. Love you, Sharon! ♥️♥️

Peanut my heart is broken & I am so devastated thinking of life without you.You were my little sister but so many times you were here for me being more of a big sister. You always had my back, you helped me so many times & you loved me unconditionally. We shared so much, always knowing we were here for each other.I don't know what I'm going to do without you... Heaven has gained another beautiful angel. No one could have fought a more courageous battle against such an evil monster! My cousin fought hard, and was always more concerned about how others were feeling than herself. My prayers go out to her husband and children. We lost a ray of sunshine! Rest in peace Peanut, no more pain.. only happy times with family you have joined.
