Saunie Drew Sirbaugh, 84 of Stephenson, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the VA Hospice and Palliative Care Unit in Martinsburg.
Saunie was born in 1941 in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Wilson and Kitty Sirbaugh. After graduating from Handley High School, he served our country in the United States Marine Corps where he completed training as a Jet Engine and Aircraft Mechanic through the Naval Air Technical Training Center. While in the Marine Corps, Saunie achieved the rank of Corporal, received the Good Conduct Medal, and earned the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. Saunie also received a Performance of Duty Recognition related to his knowledge of general military skills in addition to the requirements of his specific specialty. The Marines set the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment that Saunie would follow for the rest of his life.
Saunie completed additional education and training through Chicago Institute of Technology and Ford Motor Company during his 34-year career with Lamar Sloan Ford. Saunie retired from Lamar Sloan Ford as Systems Administrator and Parts Manager in 1999.
Saunie was an avid, lifelong bowler, with at least 6 perfect 300 games in his career. He bowled in local leagues and competed in local, state, and national tournaments, sponsored by the Professional Bowling Association, the American Bowling Congress, the Virginia Commonwealth Games, the Buddy Terino Senior Tour, and the Eastern Senior Tournament Association. He was a proud member of the Senior Pro Bowling Tour. He bowled in Nationals, individually and with a team sponsored by Zuckerman Co., for roughly 40 years. He regularly bowled in Nationals with his son, Tim, and a few times with his wife, Rosie. Saunie and Rosie also bowled together at the Virginia Commonwealth Games. Saunie was among a small group of bowlers who, while bowling with his son, both scored a perfect 300 game. During his bowling career, Saunie also mentored youth with the Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA). Saunie also served as one of the Pro Shop Technicians at Pikeside Bowl in Martinsburg.
When not on the bowling lanes, Saunie could be found at home in his shop where he enjoyed doing custom woodworking. After retiring from Lamar Sloan Ford, he started his own small business called Wilderness Creations with the moto “Particular work for particular people”.
Saunie is survived by his wife, Rosanna “Rosie” (Hodson) whom he married on August 6, 1961; daughter, Kimberly “Kim” Drue Hart (Brian); son, Timothy “Tim” Lee Sirbaugh; grandson, Tod Bryan Hart, affectionately nicknamed “Spider” by his grandfather; granddaughter, Hailey Sirbaugh; sister-in-law, Jeanette Shewbridge, and brother-in-law, John “Sonny Boy” Hodson.
Services will be privately held for Saunie at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico.
