Sandra Diane “Sandy” Fries Miller, 76, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center.
Sandy was born in 1942, in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Boyd Bell Fries and Hazel Matilda Fries. She was a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 1960. Sandy worked at the Social Security Office when it was on Boscawen Street in the early 1960s. Her most important work was as a creative, tenacious and dedicated family engineer with primary focus as wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, aunt, sister in Christ and friend.
Sandy’s faith was nurtured first through her membership in the Evangelical United Brethren Church on Braddock Street, continued as that church became First United Methodist Church and culminated at First Presbyterian Church where she served Christ and neighbor in the Handbell Choir, Baptism Box Ministry, Guardian Angels Ministry, Vacation Bible School and in many other ways as called. She was also a member of the International Order of Job’s Daughters, Bethel 47, Winchester, Virginia and volunteered as scout leaders with her children. Sandy loved to sing, often participating in church choirs, the Winchester Medical Center Auxiliary Follies and in a trio with her two best friends.
She married the love of her life and childhood boyfriend Ronald Frederick Miller on December 15, 1963.
Surviving with her husband is her daughter, Stacey Miller Iden (Alexander) of Winchester, Virginia; son, Todd Frederick Miller (Brenda) of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, Morgan Hinkle (Evan), Emily Iden, Samuel Iden, Austin Miller and Spencer Miller; great grandson, Camden Hinkle; niece, Lori Dulyea and nephews, Joel Fries and Gary Fries, Jr.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Gary Ronald Fries.
A funeral service at First Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Dan McCoig, will be conducted on Tuesday, at 2:00 PM, celebrating her life and commemorating her entry into heaven for all eternity. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
