Samuel Donald “Sam” Renner, 79, of Cross Junction, Virginia passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Hilltop House Senior Living.
Mr. Renner was born in 1939 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Samuel and Kathryn Renner. He graduated from North Union High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Renner was a police officer with Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, retiring after 25 years of service. Afterwards he worked as a security guard at Westminster Canterbury in Winchester for 8 years and as a courier for Piedmont Labs for 13 years. Mr. Renner was a member of the Ruritan since 2009, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Association of Retired Police Officers in D.C., and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a football fan of the Steelers and Redskins. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, target shooting, fishing, bird watching, dancing, listening to oldies, and taking road trips and drives in the country. Above all else he was so very proud of his children, Scott and Jennifer, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He married Lou Ellen Lantz on May 30, 1965 in Tallmansville, West Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of 53 years is a daughter, Jennifer Ann Turner (Christopher) of Washington, D.C. and son, Patrick “Scott” Renner of Cross Junction, Virginia; grandchildren, Grayson Christopher Turner and Olivia Ellison Turner, both of Washington, D.C.; sister, Jean McClean (Thomas) of Hopwood, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Renner was preceded in death by a sister, Esther A. Tormay.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 4 pm to 6 pm on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 6 pm with Pastor Andy Brock officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 am on Saturday in Sylvan Heights Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
