Sam Edward Headley, 70, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center.
Sam was born in 1948 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of Veda Little Headley and the late Mack Stuart Headley, Sr. He was a graduate of Clarke County High School, Class of 1967 and attended Virginia Tech. He grew up on the family farm and tried his hand at the family’s business of fine handcrafted furniture but found a different calling. He possessed a profound mechanical mind and enjoyed applying it to problems of complexity and difficulty. He owned and operated auto repair and restoration businesses in Winchester, specializing in the British makes and models. He built dirt track racers, prototype racers, and maintained many a customer’s daily driven sportscar. Sam worked in and continued to follow IMSA (International Motorsports Association) as a member of Bob Tullius’s Group 44 race team. He enjoyed racing at all levels including his championship at Winchester Speedway and as a Formula 1 fan.
On December 9, 1972 Sam married Victoria Seaman in Clarke County, Virginia. In addition to his wife of 46 years he is survived by his son Abe Headley with wife Michelle of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; his daughter Cambria Garman with husband Corwyn of Winchester, Virginia; sister, Gail Farrace (Edward) of Clarke County, Virginia; brothers Mack Headley, Jr. (Stephanie) of Dendron, Virginia; and Jeff Headley (Susan) of Clarke County, Virginia; and three grandchildren: Adalyn and Collin Headley of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and Samuel Garman of Winchester, Virginia. He will be fondly remembered as a good man, husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this spring. Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
