Roy O. Locke, Jr. “Buddy”, 90, of Stephens City, died November 23rd, 2021. Buddy was born in Berryville, Virginia on January 29th 1931, the son of Roy O. Locke and Annie Thompson Locke. He graduated from Clarke County High School in 1950. He loved football and was the quarterback while attending both Clarke County High School and Shepherd College. He also played basketball and baseball, and was inducted into the Clarke County Hall of Fame on September 26, 1997. Following college, he refereed high school and college football and basketball for 25 years.
Buddy married Diane Laign on June 16, 1956. He served in the United States Army from July 16, 1956 through April 19, 1958. During that time he was stationed in Korea. Upon his return to the States, he worked for Federal Government until his retirement on March 31, 1989. He also volunteered with Enders Fire Company and Stephens City Volunteer Fire and Rescue and was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church. During his life, he donated over 13 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.
Buddy is survived by his wife of over 65 years, two children, Gregory Laign Locke (Grace) of Clear Brook and Lori Locke Phillips of Winchester and three Grand Children, Trey Phillips and Lindsey Locke Phillips of Winchester and Brendyn Laign Locke of Clear Brook. He is also survived by two Sisters, Betty Foster (Roger) of Winchester and Virginia “Ginger” Moler (Doug) of Berryville.
Visitation will be held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, on Tuesday November 30, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A service will be held at Omps Funeral Home on Wednesday December 1, 2021 at 1:00 pm with burial following at Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Trey Phillips, Brendyn Locke, Todd Lumpkin, Danny Fox, Frank Heltzel and Scott Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are Doug Moler, Bob Wills, Don Bean and Roger Foster.
