Roy H. Smelser
Roy Hite Smelser, 78, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Smelser was born on November 22, 1934, in Hayfield, Virginia, the son of Robert W. and Virgie Smelser, Sr. Mr. Smelser owned and operated his sawmill in Greenspring for over 52 years. He was a member of Woodbine Assembly of God. Mr. Smelser was an avid duckpin bowler for over 50 years.
He married Ruby Morrison on August 24, 1957, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Sandi Brown and partner, Chaz Morgenthaler of Winchester; Tiffany B. Smelser and partner, Kama Bradford, of Stephens City; three sons, Jeff Smelser and wife, Beth; Scott Smelser and fiancé, Dale Alderman; Chris Smelser and wife, Irene, all of Winchester; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece, Kathy Evans and husband, Tony of Winchester; and nephew, Tony Taylor and wife, Stacey of Sandersville, Georgia.
One sister, Bertha Tasker and two brothers, Robert Smelser, Jr. and James Smelser, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastor Louis Whitford, III and Pastor Charles Townsend officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jason Smelser, Ralph Smelser, Timothy Smelser, Bryan Smelser, Tony R. Evans, Steven Smelser, Chase and Alex Brown, Jon and Jason Lamp, Gilbert Taylor and Sonny Burcham.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Avenue, Suite B, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
