Ross Simpson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and valued DC News Now family member, passed away on March 5, 2025, at 82. With a career spanning over five decades, Ross was known for his steadfast commitment to journalistic integrity and his passion for delivering news with clarity and compassion.
Born on October 18, 1942, Ross was a military veteran who started his career in broadcast journalism in 1961 while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He later transitioned to national news reporting in Washington, DC, becoming a respected voice in the industry by covering significant stories that shaped the nation’s history. His work with Mutual Broadcasting, NBC Radio, and the Associated Press earned him numerous accolades, including two prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards and a Gold Circle Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).
Ross’s colleagues and friends remember him for his professional achievements, kindness, and generosity. His storytelling left a lasting impact on those privileged to work alongside him.
Ross was a devoted family man who cherished spending time with his wife of 62 years, their four children, and their spouses, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was the heart, passion, and motivation of his life, sharing in all of his successes. He provided unwavering support and encouragement every step of the way.
Ross Simpson’s voice may be silent, but his stories will continue within his family and with future generations of journalists.
A private family visitation has been arranged. A committal service and interment at Quantico National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 1:30pm.
