Ms. Rosemary “Red” Harris Phillips of Mountain Falls, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, July 13th, 2016. She was born on September 5th, 1924, in Jefferson County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late William and Margaret Harris. Rosemary graduated from Charles Town High School and attended Shepherd College where she majored in Home Economics.
On September 11th, 1946, she married H.I. “Ike” Phillips who preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by her three children, Bonnie Sperow and her husband Bill, of Crossville, Tenn., Rebecca P. Hogan and her husband, Lynn, of Mtn. Falls, and Barry Phillips and his wife, Vicki of Buckhannon, WV. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Anita Sperow Rose, Will Sperow II, and wife, Stacey, Rachelann Mitchell and husband, Travis, Van Romer and husband, Brad, Patrick Hogan and wife, Kelsey, and Lindsey Hogan, eight great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Ruth Lam. She is also survived by her dear and special friend, Janet D. Lowery.
Rosemary, along with her husband, was very involved in her community where she participated in the Back Creek Ruritan Club Auxiliary, Mtn. View United Methodist Church where she served in numerous positions, including the Methodist Women and serving as Church Treasurer. She and Ike loved traveling in their motor home and she was an expert at helping people find travel routes all across the country. They were charter members of the Shenandoah Sams Camping Club, serving as assistant state Directors. Red was a devoted member of the Friendly Grove Home Demonstration club and also enjoyed years of wintering with Ike at their second home in Florida.
Red, as she was lovingly called by friends and family, and Ike were well known in the area for their “3B” Egg Farm, working as a family unit to deliver eggs throughout the area and providing eggs to local hucksters as well. She was an outstanding cook and seamstress using her years of Home Economics to help feed and care for everyone she knew. A devoted Christian, she lived her life accordingly, always putting others first.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 17, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Haley Dos Santos officiating at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Frederick County, Virginia.
