Ronald Smith Dolan, age 95, of Winchester, Virginia claimed his heavenly reward on All Saints’ Day, November 1, 2016.
Mr. Dolan was born in Whitacre, Virginia, the son of the late Staige William and Eva Mae Dolan. He attended Gainesboro High School in Frederick County, Virginia.
A member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Winchester, Mr. Dolan served as chairman of the Administrative Council, treasurer of the Building Fund, and member of the United Methodist Men and Fellowship Sunday School class. He was a participant of Redland United Methodist Church in Frederick County.
Mr. Dolan retired from the United States Army as Chief Warrant Officer III. He served in the medical corp during World War II. He then retired after thirty years with the Civil Service working as Chief Contract Officer at Mount Weather and retired a third time after eleven years at Lowes. In retirement, he enjoyed working at Rotz Pharmacy, volunteering at the Winchester Medical Center and the Lord Fairfax Food Bank. He was an active member of the Gainesboro Ruritan Club.
On December 24, 1940, Mr. Dolan married his bride of seventy-one years, Doris Virginia Brinkman, in Winchester. She preceded him in death, and he is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Ann Dolan Silvester and husband James of Stephens City and Nancy Lorriane Dolan Walsh and husband Philip of Winchester; four grandchildren, Adam Walsh and wife, Nicole (Shreveport, LA), Katherine Silvester and husband, Clayton Norman (Bloomington, IN), Jonathan Silvester (Winchester) and Nicholas Silvester (Stephens City); a great granddaughter, Madison Silvester (Front Royal); nieces, Mary Jane Dolan (Berryville), JoAnn Patterson (Frederick County), Dee Dee Brown (Whitacre) and Mariah McCarthy (Frederick County); nephews, Bill Dolan (El Paso, TX), David Dolan (Stephens City), Ronald Cochran (Bellevue, NE), Frederick and Harold Jacobs (Cumberland, MD) and Bruce Jacobs (Wiley Ford, WV). Three brothers, Harry William Dolan, Philip Staige Dolan and Douglas Wright Dolan, and a sister, Blanche Juanita Dolan Cochran, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on November 5th at Redland United Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Redland United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. November 5th with the Rev. Melissa Porter-Miller officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Whitacre.
