Ronald S. Helms, 78, of Burlington, West Virginia, died Sunday, August 4, 2013, in Winchester, Virginia.
Mr. Helms was born in 1935, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Sylvester R. and Amanda E. Helms. He was a veteran having served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. Mr. Helms was the owner of Harley-Davidson of Maryland, Inc., located in Annapolis and Elkridge, MD. He was the President of the East Coast Harley-Davidson Dealer Association, a member of the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association), a member of the American Legion Post #41 (Keyser, WV), a member of the EAA (Civil Air Patrol) in Grant County, WV, as well as a lifetime member of HOG (Harley Owners Group). Motorcycles, airplanes, racing, travelling on the motorcycle, and the West Virginia countryside, were all passions throughout his life.
Mr. Helms married Donna Miles Quill on June 17, 1995, in Laurel, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Gaye D. Schmidt of Millersville, MD, and Dana Quill Park and husband Steve of Ellicott City, Maryland; two sons, William Ronald Helms, and wife, Mary, of Lovettsville, VA, and Lloyd Christopher Helms of Millersville, MD; five grandchildren, Jacqueline C. Helms, Ronald Taylor Helms, Wesley Shepherd, Christopher Miles Park, and Cooper Matthew Park; four great grandchildren; sisters, Sylvia Oliff and Mary Fiedler, and husband, Fred, and sister-in-law Mary Helms.
Mr. Helms was preceded in death by his brother, Vann Helms.
All services will be private; arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
