Ronald E. “Squeak” Coffman, Sr.
Ronald Earl “Squeak” Coffman, Sr., 82, of Winchester, Virginia died Monday, July 13, 2015 in the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Coffman was born in 1932 in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Herbert E. Coffman and Alice Coffman Boone. He was a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 1951, where he was quarterback for the Handley Judges football team for three years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Airman 1st Class. He was employed as a laborer for O’Sullivan Films for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2003. Mr. Coffman attended Montague Avenue Methodist Church, played on the O’Sullivan softball and bowling teams, enjoyed gardening, coin collecting and keeping up with current events. A well-read man, he always seemed to know something about everything. He loved to be with his family and friends, and was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Coffman married Joanie (List) Coffman on February 21, 1959 in Funkstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife are two children, Susan Coffman of Spartanburg, SC and Ronald E. Coffman, Jr. of Winchester, VA and three nieces, Gloria Lane of Richmond, VA, Robin Matheney and Kaley Crosen, both of Winchester.
Mr. Coffman was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Pennington.
The family will receive friends on Friday, one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home with The Reverend Martha Miller-Sims officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Darryl Kosiorek, Kevin Crosen, Gregory Rock, David Nutter, Victor Riggleman and Sonny Burcham. Honorary pallbearers will be the Airmen of the 38th Bomb Wing, USAF (Laon AB, France) and the Volunteers of the South End Fire Department.
Following the interment, a reception will be held at the home of Kaley and Kevin Crosen in Winchester.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mr. Coffman may be made to the Henry and William Evans Home for Children, 330 E. Leicester St., Winchester, VA 22601.
