Robert Michael “Mike” Edwards, 75, of Stephens City, VA, passed away November 25, 2024, at the Winchester Medical Center. He was born September 4, 1949, in Grafton, West Virginia, the son of the late Robert “Bob” Junior Edwards and Anna Jean (Decker) Edwards.
Although his first name was Robert, everyone knew him as “Mike”. By far, his favorite thing was to go camping in the Shenandoah Valley with his kids where they would enjoy hiking, kayaking, and canoeing. He was a proud West Virginia Boy and cherished the WVU Mountaineers. Saturdays in the fall were always planned around WVU football. He enjoyed all sports both watching and participating and also followed the Washington Commanders closely as hard as it was for the many years that they weren’t very good. He loved listening to music, playing his numerous keyboards and going to rock concerts. Mike also could never pass up a good flea market or thrift store. He was an animal lover and had several dogs and cats throughout his life but his favorite by far was his dachshund named Cinnamon. Mike was also a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1969-1973. He retired from federal service in 2018 as a Special Police Officer at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.
In addition to his parents Robert “Bob” and Anna Jean, Mike was also preceded in death by his brother Barry.
He is survived by his wife Norma (LaRocque) Edwards and his three children, twins Laura and Benjamin, and Jean.
