Robert “Bucky” Lee Whitacre, 88, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Monday, January 1, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Whitacre was born in 1929 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Raymond and Mary Whitacre. He graduated from John Handley High School, Class of 1948 and a graduate of Strayer College, Class of 1950. Mr. Whitacre was Plant Manager at PenVir Packing/Virginia Pride, retiring after 20 years of service. He was veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served during the Korean conflict, achieving the rank of Sergeant. In his younger years Mr. Whitacre enjoyed hunting, bowling, and fast pitch softball. Later in life his passion was spending time with family and friends. He was a member of First Christian Church.
His wife and love of his life, Patricia Clevenger Whitacre, whom he married in 1951 preceded him in death in 2011.
Surviving is a son, Robert “Todd” Whitacre (Heidi) of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Sarah Mason (Brad) of Inwood, West Virginia and Amanda Whitacre of Winchester, Virginia; great granddaughter, Paislee Mason of Inwood, West Virginia; and sisters-in-law, Nancy Sager and Pat Clevenger.
Along with his wife of 51 years, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Strawderman and Evelyn Shobe.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 12 pm to 1 pm on Saturday at First Christian Church, 75 Merrimans Lane, Winchester, Virginia. A memorial service will follow at 1 pm with Reverend Mike Moulden and Reverend Joan Rainsberger officiating. A time of food and continued fellowship will follow the service at the church. Interment will be private.
