Ret. Col. Robert Lee Day
Ret. Col. Robert Lee Day, 80, of Lake Frederick, Virginia, passed away, Thursday, December 02, 2010 in the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Day was born in 1930 in Great Falls, Montana, the son of the late Harry L. and Ann T. Day. Mr. Day was a graduate of Washington State, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree and a graduate of University of Washington, where he received his Master’s Degree. Mr. Day was a member of Church of the Apostles and attended Victory Church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam War, where he retired with twenty-eight years of service as a Colonel. Mr. Day joined SRA back in 1979 becoming its number six employee and has been a tireless contributor ever since. He was totally dedicated to SRA, and did outstanding work as an account manager for several technical and functional teams in the areas of logistics and automatic identification technology supporting the Department of Defense. By all accounts, he was a compassionate mentor, a solid leader, and a true friend. He loved people and always placed the needs of others ahead of his own. Those who knew him best saw his life as a reflection of the good in each person he met.
He married Barbara Ann Bond Lacey on June 29, 1991 in Hancock, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife of nineteen years, are three children, Eric Stephen Day of Clifton, Virginia, Gregory Robert Day and his wife, Janice of Madison, Alabama, and Lisa Kathryn Day of Welches, Oregon; a stepdaughter, Jennifer A. Kopsch and her husband, Robert of Warrenton, Virginia; three grandchildren, Russell, Kelly, and Matthew; and a sister in law, Sandy Bond of Lake Frederick, Virginia.
A service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 11th at Church of the Apostles, 3500 Pickett Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22031 with The Reverend David R. Harper officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date with full military honors.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 11th from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Church of the Apostles.
