Robert Lee “Bobby” Purdham, Sr., age 82, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Winchester Medical Center.
Bobby was born in 1933, in Stanley, Virginia, the son of the late Ray Franklin and Myrtle M. Purdham. He was a truck driver for J. D. Stokely, retiring after 34 years of service. Bobby was also a member of Teamsters local #639. He was a veteran serving during the Korean War for the United States Army. Bobby was a devoted husband, father and friend to many. He will be forever remembered for his love of sports, sense of humor and devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bobby married Thelma Louise Whittington on January 25, 1958 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-seven years, are a daughter, Bonnie Diamantes and her husband, David, of Berryville, Virginia; a son, Robert L. “Rob” Purdham, of Front Royal, Virginia; a step-daughter, Cindy Turner and her husband, Wayne, of Toms Brook, Virginia; one grandchild; Brittany Purdham and one brother, Paul Purdham and his wife, Beryl, of Hampton, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Painter and a brother, Gene Purdham.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Barbara Rhodes officiating, at Omps, South Chapel.
Entombment will be private at a later date in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Robert Lee Purdham, Sr. at the SPCA, 115 Featherbed Lane, Winchester, VA 22601.
