ROBERT ALLEN KLINE
Robert Allen Kline (“Bob”) died October 7, 2015 in Winchester, VA at the age of 68. Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years Linda L. Kline of Sperryville, VA, his son Scott Kline of Clifton, VA, his daughter Melissa Darr of Luray, VA, his sister Betty Jean Parsons, of Winchester, VA, and two grandchildren.
Bob was born November 11, 1946 in Winchester, VA to George F. and Ruby H. Kline. Prior to graduating John Handley High School in 1965, Bob was a volunteer fireman at Friendship Fire Company in Winchester. After graduation, Bob began a career in law enforcement and corrections that spanned over 40 years, beginning as a Dispatcher for the Winchester Police Department and the Virginia State Police. In 1968 he became a Deputy for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department, obtaining the rank of Sergeant in 1975. During his tenure, he helped the County establish its own dispatch system and trained newly hired dispatchers on the use of the system. After a brief stint with the Front Royal Police Department, Bob began a 32 year career with the Virginia Department of Corrections in 1976 as a Jails Trainer and managed the Court and Legal Services Department. In 1982, he became the Assistant Superintendent at White Post Correctional Field Unit #7 and was promoted to Superintendent of the Haynesville Correctional Field Unit #17 in 1986. In 1988 he became the Superintendent of Fairfax Correctional Field Unit #30 and in 1996 Bob came back home to Winchester to serve as the Superintendent of White Post Correctional Field Unit #7 until his retirement in 2008. Looking back on his career upon retirement, Bob is quoted as saying “If I have helped one offender over these years, I feel my career was worth it.”
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. November 14, 2015 at Reynolds Baptist Church in Sperryville, VA (the church where he and Linda were married Valentine’s Day 1970) with a reception to follow in the church’s reception hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are sent in memory of Robert A. Kline to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association at 801 Roeder Road #1000 Silver Spring, MD 20910 and/or Caring Voice Coalition at 8249 Meadowbridge Road Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
