Bob was born in 1929 in Haddonfield, NJ the son of John D. Glover and Marie Cunningham Glover and died at the age of 88 on March 24, 2018 at Winchester Medical Center.
The family moved to Winchester in 1931.
Bob married Bessie Mann Glover on July 31, 1965 in Winchester, VA.
Surviving are his wife and son, John E. Glover and his significant other, Trina Dickey. Mr. Glover’s parents and brother preceded him in death along with an Aunt, Doris R. Cunningham who lived with the family.
Bob graduated from Handley High School in 1947 and from the University of Pennsylvania where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Upon graduation he served a tour of duty in the U. S. Navy. After being honorably discharged he joined his father in the family oil business, John D. Glover, Gulf Oil Products. In1958 Bob built the Amherst Diner. When the oil business was incorporated as John D. Glover & Sons, Inc. he became Vice-President. With the death of his father in 1985 he became President. That year the company became a Chevron distributor and later added Pure Oil products. In 2004 most of the business was sold and he remained active managing the remainder of the business until his death.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon. He is a former member and Secretary of the Northern Virginia Petroleum Association. He participated in local stock car racing in the early 1960s and drove his own car for a short time. He also had a great interest in model railroading.
A committal service will be conducted at 2 pm on Friday at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia with Pastor Alan Morrison officiating.
