Robert “Bob” Cooley, 67, of Stephens City, VA passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 at Winchester Medical Center.

Bob was born in 1955 in Bethesda, MD the son of the late William Olds and Mary Jane Frost Cooley. He was a graduate of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, Class of 1973 and went on to the Virginia Police Academy in Waynesboro, VA. Bob started out his law enforcement career with various agencies in Maryland and DC, then came over to Frederick County to be a deputy with Frederick County Sheriff’s Office in 1986 and stayed with the department until his retirement in 2021 (33 years). Bob was in charge of the first police reserve class in Virginia that was held outside of a police academy. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Mustang Club, American Radio Relay League, and a Civil War reenactor.

Bob married Michele Anastas on September 9, 1988 at First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, VA.

He is survived by his wife, Michele; sister in law, Sheila Anastas (Lawrence Garstka); nephew, Robert Garstka (Alicia); great-niece, Lila Day Garstka; and great-nephew, Jackson Garstka.

Bob was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Cooley.

A visitation will be Friday from 11am – 1pm with a service at 1pm all held at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park. Officiating will be Chaplain Brandon Thomas.

Michele, You have our sincere condolences on the loss of Bob. The suddenness of a heart attack is so difficult to deal with. Just do what you can when you can. Grief has no time limit. So sad to learn of Bob’s passing. He was my General Instructor at the FCSO Academy. He was an excellent and dedicated teacher who always went the extra step to help others. Prayers to family and fellow friends.

Bob and I went to the same schools from elementary through high school. We never had a class together but I knew of him. We chatted at one or two of our high school reunions and learned that we were both in law enforcement. I know that he enjoyed his position as a deputy with the Frederick County, VA Sheriff's Office. So very sorry for this great loss ! Mr. Bob was a regular customer at Handymart on Warrior Dr. He was always so sweet and always acknowledeged me by my name when he came in to get his Marborol Smooth 100's. I am in total shock! My heart,hugs& prayers go out to his family. He diffentley will always be missed & remembered at Handymart.

Just wanted to leave a note since I have been sick since Sunday and won't be able to attend the funeral. I enjoyed worked with Bob while I was with the VSP and upon retirement, while I worked with him at the FCSO. Always cordial and with a smile on his face. RIP Brother Bob. Bob was truly one of the good guys, a true-blue line person! Prayers of comfort for family and friends. The memories of Bob are all good for me. We met oh so long ago when I started working at a small PD in Frederick County. Bob was always there for back-up and guidance. He will be missed.
