All who knew Rita Care, knew her selfless generosity, whether as a wife, mother, teacher, or real estate broker. She gave tirelessly to all she loved and cared for.
A great loss to all whose lives she touched, Rita C. Care (87) of Winchester, VA, Mount Pleasant, SC, and Sterling, VA passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years James R. Care and is survived by her brother, Dorsey Criss (Sharon) of Grafton, WV, and sons Jeffrey Care (Sherry), and Gregory Care (Robin) of Winchester, VA. Also surviving are grandson Matthew Care (Lindsay) and 3 great grandchildren Addisyn, Bellamy, and Callum of North Port Florida, step-grand-daughter Kristen Berleue and her son Donovan of Winchester along with numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.
Rita and Jim moved back to Winchester after residing in Mount Pleasant, SC for the past 28 years and were long time residents of Sterling VA from 1966 to the mid – 1990’s. Rita was a long-time teacher at Winnie the Pooh pre-school and is fondly remembered my many of her young charges to this day. Rita was also active in real estate, local Democratic party politics and was a longtime supporter of the Park View High School Band Boosters where both her sons attended and graduated in 1979 and 1985 respectively.
Rita enjoyed sewing and taught beginning sewing classes in Mount Pleasant, SC, attended may local events and was a friend to many on Mount Royall Dr. Rita recently attended the Evans Family Reunion in Fellowsville, WV reconnecting with cousins and other family members.
She especially enjoyed visiting her son Gregory and his wife Robin, moving in with them for the last year and a half in Winchester. She also enjoyed visits from Jeffrey, grandson Matthew and Lindsay with her great-grandchildren when they traveled from Florida to Mount Pleasant or Winchester to visit.
Rita will be well remembered by all who knew her and was loved dearly by her family and is tremendously missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Rita on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 2pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Reception Center.
