Rick Eugene Dutrow, 60, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018, at his home.

Rick was born in 1958 in Gaithersburg, Maryland, the son of Mary Jo Maher of Frederick, Maryland and Merhle Dutrow of Damascus, Maryland; stepson of Claudia Dutrow of Damascus, Maryland. He attended T.J. High School in Frederick, Maryland. Rick was an equipment operator for Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a Harley Davidson man and enjoyed the Poker Runs with the Harley club. Rick was a Master Gardener and always looked forward to selling Christmas trees in Rockville after Thanksgiving, as well as enjoying the Zombie Walk in Front Royal, Virginia. He was quite the trickster with a wicked sense of humor….sneaking backstage during concerts pretending to be a roadie. Rick was very talented in making knives and carving canes/walking sticks. His greatest passion was his family and friends…..and his red shoes!

Rick married Elizabeth Jenkins on July 18, 1987 in Stephens City, Virginia.

Surviving with his parents, stepmother, and wife is a daughter, Crissie Ward and her husband, Anthony of Frederick, Maryland; sons, Mark Dutrow and his wife, Candice of Winchester, Virginia and Phillip Jenkins and his wife, Melissa of Stephens City, Virginia; grandchildren, Brandon Robertson of Frederick, Maryland, Kylie Robertson of Middletown, Maryland, Corbin and Noah Jenkins of Stephens City, Virginia; sisters, Anne Clements of Mt. Airey, Maryland and Jeanne Herndon and her husband, George of Damascus, Maryland, and Laura Lemley of Sykesville, Maryland; and brother, Edward Lupcho and his wife, Brenda of Frederick, Maryland.

A visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm on Thursday, January 3rd, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 12 pm. Interment will be in Willis Chapel Cemetery, Huntly, Virginia.

Just found out why I went to work today. I’m so sorry Beth for your loss. We are all here for you.

I have many fond memories working with Rick at the Christmas Tree lot. We would always talk about the latest food, or recipes, or restaurants he had been to. He would pull out his phone and show pictures of concerts he had been to, motorcycle runs he had been on, or trips he had taken. He always had a story, and everyone loved to listen. Rick, you will be missed buddy. Vaya con Dios.

I worked with Ricky for 5 years and being a fellow Harley rider we always had great stories to share. Ricky was a kind soul and will be missed by many.

Beth, My heart just aches for you!! Rick was such an amazing guy and I will never forget the kindness he showed to Gaga and bond they shared. I pray you find strength in the days ahead. I love you my friend!

For the past 27 years, we've sold Christmas Trees with Santa Rick. He loved the business, but mostly the customers and the friendships he developed over the many seasons. Rick was at home on the tree lot- and everyone looked forward to hearing about his latest adventures and stories, as only Rick could tell. Good times! We will miss you buddy! Rest in peace.

Rick always had a smile on his face and was such a wonderful person. Beth, you and your family have our deepest sympathies.

Rick we will never be the same without you. I plan to take tomorrow Christmas and clean your bike up real good. I know exactly how you liked it done. I will check it out real good, then fire it up. I will gas it hard just like you did when you first would start it up. When we ride, we will miss you just behind us. We love you Beth and everyone!! Miss you buddy :(

Rick will be missed by all of us at May's Seafood Restaurant. We will miss you surprising Beth with a Birthday Crab Feast or presenting a trip to the Super Dome we never knew what surprise Rick would have in store for Birthdays, Anniversarys or a drive to enjoy Crabs. One day he stopped and we saw him out front in a Santa Hat helping someone back their car out onto Rt 355. He enjoyed helping people and was able to have a conversation with anyone he met. Rick and his Red sneakers will be missed very much.

We have so many memories of our brother, Rick. Always riding his baby (Harley Davidson) right behind us (he would not ever let anyone take his spot) and in all of our group pictures he was never far from us. He was very picky about certain things like wanting his new town sticker, not because we need new ones anymore but because he paid for it. He loved to make people laugh, he was very sincere and thoughtful. Any gifts he gave were completely thought out. Always getting me (Melissa) something bear or a soft pretzel. And he worked extra hard to make sure Beth got what she wanted especially her dream trip. I could go on and on....We will never forget our friend/brother. We love you and miss you. RIP buddy. We love you too Beth! Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family always.

Ricky was always excited to come see me. See I was his hair stylist for the last 5-6 years. He had a love of music and concerts like I do. He was always supportive of my head shaving and he always wanted to keep the beard long for the kids!! He loved being an honorary Santa! Lol, and you are right, he was tickled by his Red shoes!! He always made me laugh!! Rick, you will sorely be missed!! Never forgotten my friend❤️
