Richard Lee Sutphin, 77 of Berryville, VA, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, peacefully at his home.

Richard was born in 1947 in Leesburg, VA, the son of the late Marvin and Ruby Sutphin. He was a graduate of Loudoun County High School and served our country with honors in the United States Army serving in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne. He retired as a Cattle Herdsman, raising beef cattle was his passion. Richard loved showing his cattle and watching ringside as his children and grandchildren competed.

He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn whom he married on August 4, 1971, son, Christopher Lee Sutphin (Kim); daughter, Kimberly Ann Henderson (Matt); grandchildren, Devon D. Henderson (Brandon), Lexi L. Henderson, Jake R. Henderson; great-grandchildren, Paislee, William, Novalee and Aiden; sisters, Patricia S. Heath, Linda D. Sutphin and his aunt, Ann Shoemaker.

Along with his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his brother, Michael A. Sutphin.

A funeral service will be held for Richard at 10am on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Richard to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.

Mrs.Sutphin , Chris, Kimmy Mr.Sutphin was a very nice man to me and I highly respected him and his wisdom. I met Mr.Sutphin in 10th grade at a mini mart in Leesburg in 1986 . I used to stop by southern states feed in Leesburg just to hang out and chat. I knew when I talked with him I had to be tuff. Mr.Sutphin told me one time no wimp's allowed to hang around. I said Mr Sutphin you think I’m wimpy he said I’ll have Chris fined out , come on over this evening. I knew from then I loved this man. And Chris became my only true friend I’ve ever had. I’m truly saddened by his passing and I will continue to respect him not just as friend ,a man, but a patriot and one who admired his Family above all. Mrs.Sutphin your in my heart.
