Richard “Dick” BeDell, Sr.

Richard John “Dick” BeDell, Sr., 80, of Stephens City, VA died Monday, July 2, 2012 in the Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. BeDell was born in 1932 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the son of the late Willard and Evelyn BeDell. He was a Communications Supervisor for FEMA until his retirement in 1993. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict as a Teleman 3rd Class, stationed in Washington DC.

Mr. BeDell married Emma Catherine Sneath BeDell on February 20, 1952 in Washington, DC.

Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Cathy Ritter and her husband, Tim, of Middletown, VA; three sons, Michael BeDell and wife, Melody of Rio, WV, David BeDell and wife, Vikki, of South Weber, Utah, and Richard J. BeDell, Jr. and wife, Rachel of Stephens City, VA; fifteen grandchildren, Cassie Ritter Craze, Robyn Ritter, Jake Ritter, Jenni BeDell Shelly, Emili BeDell, Michael BeDell, Alexandra BeDell, Samantha BeDell, Graham BeDell, Jeremy Mikesell, Emma BeDell, Nathan BeDell, Danny Mathews, Colby BeDell and Marissa BeDell; five great grandchildren, and three sisters, Marvel Drefus of Berlin, Wisconsin, Patty Allen of Mooresville, NC and Enie Dowell of Matthews, NC .

Mr. BeDell was preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine Parys and Jackie Staulding, and a brother, Bill Compton.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with the Reverends Jeff Butcher and Matt Vaught officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
