Richard Eugene Sharp, 79, of Stephens City, Virginia died Monday, May 2, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Sharp was born in 1936, in Marlinton, West Virginia, the son of the late Mary and Lanty Sharp. He was a graduate of Marlinton High School, Class of 1954. Mr. Sharp was a Parts Manager with Central Motor Company based in Springfield, Virginia, retiring after 45 years of service in 2006. He attended Macedonia United Methodist Church in Frederick County. Mr. Sharp’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, car rides, and traveling. He was an avid Redskins fan, WVU Mountaineers fan and liked to hunt and fish in his formative years. As a loving grandfather, he very rarely missed his grandchildren’s sports events.

He married Wanda Friel on August 13, 1960, in Marlinton, West Virginia.

Surviving with his wife are his daughters, Lana Kay O’Grady and husband, Mike, of Fairfax, Virginia, Kristie Sharp of Lovettsville, Virginia, Hope Thoresen and husband, Finn, of Berryville, Virginia, Jill McKallip and husband, Rob, of Forsyth, Georgia; adopted daughter, Christi Trefny of Centerville, Virginia; grandchildren, Lee, Amber, Shana, Eli, Brant, Reese, Logan, Brady, Conor, Rilyn, Ava, Maela, Isaac, Hunter, his adopted grandson; great grandchildren, Jayden, Jordan, Khloe, Anthony, Logan and Brayden.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday, from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM at Macedonia United Methodist Church

A celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Macedonia United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Mayton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 1941 Macedonia Church Road, White Post, Virginia, 22663.

While I did not know Mr. Sharp personally, I still became close to him through the many stories Lana shared with me. It has been a pleasure knowing such a phenomenal person as recalled by his loving daughter. Cherish the memories you have of him as they will strengthen you in getting through this difficult time. He was the best papa any grandchild could ask for. He was always at our games and family functions spending time with him meant the most to me. When I had lost my father almost 3 years ago papa pulled me aside and told me I'm still here and always will be for you! He was a very smart man! Any questions I had car related he had the answers ... Any thing I asked sports related he had the answer . He was my go to man, and now I have another angel watching over me and protecting me! Richard and I worked together at Central Motors for more than 20 years during that time I met his beautiful family who he loved very much, we would meet in the mornings for coffee before work he'll always talk about his daughters, wife, grand kids,and son in laws just by listening to him you could hear the love he has for all of them.Richard will be a good friend and have a place in my heart

What a good Dad!

Lana and family our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. It is hard to lose a parent. God bless you all!?

Richard and I visited Canada to fish with relatives. On the way up to Canada, we were questioned by the border patrol. They asked us what nationality we were. Richard said "I'm a Vriginian", then he looked at me and said "why did I say that?'

I am truly sorry to hear of your loss. I know that what you are going through right now is very difficult. My heart, prayers and thoughts are with each of you.

Wanda, I am so sorry for your loss. Dick was a wonderful man, loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

Uncle Richard was the best uncle anyone could have ..he was a blessing that God gave all his nieces and nephews ... I couldn't wait to visit him and my aunt Wanda in the summer when I was younger and when I had children of my own ..my children could wait to visit at Easter time each year .. Uncle Richard I hope you knew how loved you were and how special ..you will be missed by many but you were loved by LOTS!
