Richard (Dickie) Yost 69, of Winchester, Va. passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest on May 7, 2023, at Winchester Medical Center.
Dickie was born April 1, 1954, to the late Preston Garison and Carolyn Davison Yost. He grew up in Berkely Springs, WV and was a member of the First Church of Berkeley Springs. He was also a member of the Eagles Club-824. Dickie attended and graduated from Berkely Springs High School where he was well known for his athletic abilities, especially during his senior year where he was named the All-Star Quarterback for the Tri State League and led them to the Blue Ridge Conference Championship. Dickie had a passion for sports, especially the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed playing fast pitch softball in his younger days, golfing and being on the water fishing. His love for sports was only matched by his love for conversation. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved talking to everyone about everything. He spent a lot of his free time after retirement watching and cheering on his grandchildren playing sports. He enjoyed family card game nights and the tradition of making homemade apple butter with his loved ones. He was a free spirit, life of the party and quite the jokester (He wasn’t born on April Fool’s Day coincidentally). If you were ever to see Dickie out in town, there’s no doubt that he would be wearing his staple pieces which included a flannel shirt, ball cap and grey crocs. Dickie will be deeply missed by his wife of 35 years, Damaris who resides in their family home in Winchester, VA; daughter Molly Collins and husband Daniel of Stephens City, VA.; brother Taylor Yost and his wife Penny of Berkeley Springs; sister Patricia Socks and husband Jack of Greencastle PA; two grandchildren Adalyn and Hayden Collins and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother James Melvin Yost (Jim).
A celebration of life will be held for Dickie on Friday May 19th at the Eagles Club-824, located at 700 Baker Lane Winchester, Va.22601 from 3:00-6:00pm.
