Randolph Cephas Fahnestock
Randolph Cephas Fahnestock, 97, of Winchester, died on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011 at Winchester Medical Center.
He was born on April 16, 1914, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the Reverend Cephas Fahnestock and Sarah J.“Sallie” Butler Fahnestock. Mr. Fahnestock was employed and retired from the Virginia State Highway Department and was a long-standing member of the Calvary Church of the Brethren. He was active in maintaining his home and making handmade quilts until his death. Mr. Fahnestock was featured in the Winchester Star at the age of 90 for his quilt making.
He married Anna Cordelia Luttrell on November 28, 1938. She preceded him in death on January 26, 2000.
Surviving are three children, Marjorie A. Ziegler of St. Cloud, Florida, Carl R. Fahnestock of Kissimmee, Florida, Garland W. Fahnestock and his wife, Jeanne, of Winchester; 9 grandchildren, Mark Ziegler, Tracey McCready, Patricia Berry, Ivon Fahnestock, Diane Hensley, Steve Barnett, Martin Feltner, Cory Feltner and Matthew Feltner; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; 2 brothers, David A. Fahnestock of Winchester, Reuben T. Fahnestock of Timberville, Virginia; 4 sisters, Mary F. Lowery and Margaret M. Childs of Winchester, Betty F. Hardesty of Front Royal, and Dorothy F. Carper of Stephens City.
His son-in-law, Louis Ziegler, daughter-in-law, Barbara Fahnestock; 4 brothers, Daniel Fahnestock, Paul Fahnestock, Robert Fahnestock and Ray Fahnestock and 2 sisters, Frances Luttrell and Isabella Yeakley, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Pastor Clarence Davis, Jr. and Reverend J. Floyd Wine officiating. Interment will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens in Strasburg, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Ivon Fahnestock, Martin Feltner, Cory Feltner, Robert Lewis, Allan LaFollette, Wally Foster and Elton Fahnestock.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
