Preston I. Moffett, Sr.
Preston Irving Moffett, Sr., 85, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, in his home.
Mr. Moffett was born in 1926, in Washington D.C., the son of the late Preston Nelson and Nellie Rose Moffett. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Dorothy Anne Farkus on September 3, 1949, in Warrenton, Virginia.
He was the owner and President of Preston I. Moffett Distributing. He purchased Gunther Distributorship and moved it to Winchester. Later he was instrumental in bringing Coors Beer to the east coast. Mr. Moffett was very involved with Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He was an Usher for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Board and was instrumental in developing the new church property, buildings as well as St. Bridget in the Field, Berryville, Virginia . Mr. Moffett was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Preston Moffett was an avid horse breeder. As a result of his foundation mare, Miss Galax, he bred, Shamsay, who was voted 3 year old Maryland Bred Filly Champion and was a grade I winner.
Mr. Moffett was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge #1283 and Winchester Golf Club. Preston Moffett loved his family and Winchester.
Surviving with his wife are his children, Preston I. “Bugs” Moffett, Jr. of Winchester, Virginia, Stephanie “Taffy” Moffett Litz and her husband, Donald P. Litz, Jr., of Butler, Maryland; four grandchildren, Anne Moffett Litz, Dorothy Page Litz, Ashby Litz Thoeni and her husband, Parker, Stephanie Westcott Litz; sister, Shirley Capan of Warrenton, Virginia; and brother, Wilbur Moffett of Florida.
One sister, Jeannette Athey preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating, Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bayliss, Chares Malone, Orin Ritter, Matthew McHale, Edward Whittle, and Jerry Kerr.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 5:00-8:00 PM. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
