Peter Robert Gates, 91, of Winchester, VA passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at his home in Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury.

Peter was born in 1933 in Baldwin Harbor, Long Island, NY, a son of the late Jean and Eileen Gates. He graduated from Colgate University where he was an officer of his fraternity, Theta Chi. Upon graduation he was drafted into the Army. He spent several years active duty in Germany as a Military Intelligence Specialist with the CIC. Once discharged, he began studying to become a stockbroker and investment advisor at NYU/Stern School of Business and the NY Institute of Finance. He enjoyed a Wall Street career spanning 40 years at various major brokerage firms, retiring from a senior position at Bear Stearns. Peter supported his wife Marilyn’s passion for breeding and training German Shorthaired Pointers and was an officer of several kennel clubs. He was also involved with local organizations in their longtime home in Garrison, NY. They relocated to Westminster Canterbury in Winchester where they spent twelve years, Peter embraced the community making many new friends and enthusiastically serving on various committees and participating in volunteer opportunities.

Peter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn Kreilick Gates, his brother J. Donald Gates, and niece and nephews Cynthia, Eric, Dennis and Christoper Gates.
