Patricia Egan Hlavinka, 66, of Stephens City, Virginia passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at her home, surrounded by the love and peace of her family.
Patty was born on November 25, 1957, in Washington, D.C, daughter of the late Donald and Denise Egan — one of eight siblings. Patty was the valedictorian of her class at St. Mary’s Academy in Alexandria, Virginia and graduated with honors from George Mason University. She worked for Prince William Hospital and later Virginia Radiology Associates in Manassas, VA. She retired in 2018 after over thirty years. She made several lifelong friends during her time as an accountant and administrator.
She married the love of her life and very best friend, David Duane Hlavinka, on June 13, 1987, in Springfield, VA. Patty was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Anyone who knew Patty would immediately mention her laugh and the joy she provided to those around her. She was brilliant, ambitious, funny, creative, and honest — a cherished, one-of-a-kind friend and confidante to all who knew her. She enjoyed classic movies, puzzles, fire-pits in the backyard, singing along to Carole King and James Taylor, sitting by the ocean, and so many other beautiful things. She was a devout Catholic and saw the wonder of God’s love in every aspect of her life. Patty’s impact on the people she met was immediate and life-altering. She made people feel safe, loved, and celebrated — a constant beacon of light in the world and to all who loved her. She will always be remembered.
Surviving with her husband, Dave, are daughters Sarah Hlavinka Lewis (Corey) of Broadway, VA and Denise Carol Hlavinka (Chris West) of Nashville, TN; granddaughter, Madeline June Lewis; sisters Carol Shutt, Cathy L’Abbe (Mark), Mary Howard (Steve), Beth Potts (Craig), and Anne Barlow (Tim). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who she loved dearly.
A visitation will be at 10am with a memorial service to follow at 11am on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. We welcome guests to wear green to honor Patty’s beloved Irish heritage and favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Patty’s memory to The Lustgarten Foundation — a non-profit organization empowering the fight against pancreatic cancer.
