Officer Hunter Edwards, 30, of Stephens City, Virginia died while serving others in the line of duty on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by his family and closest friends.
Hunter was a police officer with the Winchester Police Department. He was very active in many aspects of the police department including; the Civil Disturbance team, the SWAT team and as a field training officer.
On September 29, 2018, he married the love of his life, Tara Markley. Together with their son, Landon, their life as a family was complete. He was an amazing husband and wonderful father. Among all of his accomplishments this was the most meaningful.
Hunter enjoyed playing golf, working out at the gym, listening to country music, playing video games, and spending time with family and friends. He was a compassionate and a loyal son, husband, father, brother and comrade.
Hunter was born in 1988 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the son of Anne-Berry Wade and the late James Allen Edwards, Sr.; stepson of Edmund Engle. He graduated from Robinson High School in Fairfax, Virginia and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Christopher Newport University.
Surviving with his mother and stepfather of Fairfax, Virginia, is his wife, Tara and son, Landon of Stephens City, Virginia; brother, Allen Edwards, Jr. of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and sister, Samantha Engle of Northern Virginia.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 3-5 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday at Winchester Church of God, 2080 N. Frederick Pike, Winchester, Virginia.
A memorial service with full law enforcement honors will be held at 11 am on Friday at Winchester Church of God. Interment will be private.
Serving as pallbearers will be close friends Travis Medina, Ricky Medina, Austin Lindley, Allen Edwards, Bryan Derryberry, and Mike Upham.
