Nancy L. Markee, 65 of Stephens City, VA passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 at Winchester Medical Center.

Nancy was born in 1956 in Charles Town, WV to the late William Lewis and Teresa Knott Smoot. She was a homemaker and member of Lighthouse Full Gospel Church in Stephens City. Nancy was active in her church where she sang, played piano, and tutored at the Christian School. She was a seamstress and a tremendous cook who loved doting on her family and cooking meals for them and for friends. Nancy was a loving wife of 48 years as well as a wonderful mother, Nana, and great Nana. She traveled extensively with her husband doing Evangelistic work all over the United States. Nancy will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church family.

She married Rev. Paul Everett Markee on September 29, 1973 in Charles Town, WV.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Paul; daughter, Bethany M. Snow (Samuel) of Harpers Ferry, WV; sons, Brent E. Markee (Kristy) of Hedgesville, WV and Nathan W. Markee (Rhonda) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Trent (Courtney), Taylor (Britnie), Trinity, and Avon Markee, Brittney Roberts (Jordan), Nadalyn and Tiana Markee, Breanna, Evan, Brooklyn, Victoria and Blake Snow; great grandchildren, Avonleigh Roberts and Knox Markee; she was also mother to numerous other children she took under her wings to whom she nurtured and helped to raise as her own; sisters, Ann Smoot of Charles Town, WV, Mattie West (Wayne) of Charles Town, WV, Peggy McNutt of Charles Town, WV, Judy O’Bryan (Jeff) of Charles Town, WV, Penny Smoot of Charles Town, WV, and Debbie Parker (Bill) of Blackstone, VA; brothers, Ronnie Smoot (Cheryl) of Shenandoah Junction, WV, Donnie Smoot of Charles Town, WV, and Gary Smallwood of Charles Town, WV.

A Visitation will be Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 6pm to 8pm at Lighthouse Full Gospel Church with a service the following day Friday, December 31, 2021 at 11am also held at Lighthouse Full Gospel Church. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

I am so thankful that God put Sister Nancy Markee & her family in my life before she went to her Heavenly home. She was a blessing and I will continue to pray for her church and family.

What a beautiful lady inside and out! My prayers have been for God to comfort each heart that loves Sister Nancy…and i know there are many. She’s singing us home now. Rest in peace ❤️

My husband and I would like to send our sincere condolences to the Markee family. We are new members of the Church and Nancy always made us feel right at home and part of the church family. She always doted on our son Elijah and he adored Nancy as we all did. She was such a beautiful woman of God and very inspiring to me as a new Pentecostal woman in my walk with God. I am sorry to see she’s gone, but I know she is rejoicing with our Lord above and watching over us all! Forever Love and miss you Sister Nancy.

Nancy was an inspiration not only in her faith, but also in her example of how important the home is to our families and to the world. I saw in her an intelligent and gutsy woman who knew how to stand for what is right. I saw her also as a fun loving gramma and I could see in her eyes her gentleness and love. I know how she brought people to the throne of God with her musical talents and I know what it took for her to be the side kick of her husband and to remain faithfully supporting of his call on his own life. When I think of Nancy I think of a person who didn’t let life pass; she embraced the joy of life and also took the responsibilities God had placed on her to make a difference in others lives. It took a big hearted person to offer her life in service the way she did for others. I have known Nancy to varying degrees since she was 16 and I know her faith to have been real and earnest and expressed fully. Mike and I express hearts full of joy for her walking with the Savior in this life, and in full abandon now in the presence of the glory of her King. So sorry to hear this news. I met this special lady on the 5th floor of the hospital where she was a patient. I helped bathe her and she sang and talked and talked as well as Mr Markee. I met her daughter and sisters as well. Super sweet. I have never seen a time that when Bro Makee sees me in our town that he does not stop and day hello. May God give this family the Peace that passes All Understanding. She is in Heaven singing her way around the Golden Streets.
