Mildred Elizabeth Parrish Mowrey, 86, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in Waynesboro Manor Assisted Living facility in Waynesboro, Virginia.
Mrs. Mowrey was born in 1927 in Kissimmee, Florida, the daughter of the late Claude M. and Recy W. Parrish. She was a graduate of Madison High School in Madison, Florida. Mrs. Mowrey was a bookkeeper and treasurer at John S. Solenberger & Co., retiring after 33 years of service. She was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester and the Women’s Civic League of Winchester.
She married Wilfred Elwood “Bub” Mowrey on July 6, 1948, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Then with her husband they opened Mowrey’s Jewelry Store in Romney, West Virginia. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Surviving is her daughter, Barbara Fisher and husband, Bill of Waynesboro, Virginia; three grandchildren, Stacey Emery and husband, Robert, of Copperas Cove, Texas, Sandra Gharib and husband, Lindo, of Glen Allen, Virginia; Zachary Fisher and wife, Rachel, of Nashville, Tennessee; thirteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Jack Mowrey of Manitou, Kentucky. One brother, Claude Maurice Parrish, Jr., preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 2:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Pastor Tony Layman officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
