Mildred (Chicko) Moore passed from her life here on earth on July 29, 2021. She died at her home in Lake Frederick, Virginia in the loving care of her daughter, sons and son-in-law. Millie was ninety-four years old at the time of her death. She was born in1927 in Youngstown, Ohio to Peter Chicko and Helen (Kerchlich) Chicko both of whom had immigrated to this country from Croatia. Millie graduated from East High School in Youngstown in 1945. She entered nurses’ training at South Side Hospital in Youngstown where she was in the last class to have her training paid for in the government’s effort to recruit nurses related to the World War II effort.
Upon her graduation from Nursing School in 1948, she volunteered to care for patients suffering from polio at Minneapolis General Hospital. She later was employed by South Side Hospital where she worked many years as a float nurse. Her last nine years of service were in Outpatient Surgery at the same hospital.
Millie married James Moore in June of 1951. She and James had been married nearly sixty-four years when Jim preceded her in death in April of 2016. Millie and Jim had four children: Kimberly Hackett, (Pat) of Lake Frederick, Virginia, Karen Moore, Richard Moore of Medina, Ohio and Robert Moore (Stephanie) also of Medina, Ohio. Millie had six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her young daughter, Karen, a sister, Helen Isaman and her brother, Vince Chicko.
Millie loved visiting her sister and family in Arizona. Later she and Jim retired to Gilbert, Arizona for a time. Millie was an avid reader who was especially enthusiastic about biographies. She loved Hallmark movies that always ended on a happy note. Millie liked to garden and gave a lot of time to making many beautiful pieces of counted cross-stitch.
Millie was always interested in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and wanted all the best for each and every one. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
