Mauvoreen Shockey Watkins
Mauvoreen Francis Shockey Watkins, 94, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Watkins was born in 1915, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Lloyd V. and Orpha C. Shockey. She was a school teacher with Frederick County, Clarke County and Winchester City Schools having served for 34 years, retiring in 1972. Mrs. Watkins was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church, Winchester Garden Club and the Civic League of Winchester. She was a graduate of Bath County High School in Berkeley Springs, and received her Teaching Degree from Shepherd College in Shepherdstown.
Her husband, Bennie Lee Watkins, whom she married on June 3, 1939, in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, preceded her in death on May 15, 1988.
Surviving is her daughter, Sue Brokaw and husband Russell, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; her son-in-law, Philip Haines; five grandchildren, Kimberly, Keith and Kristina Brokaw, Saundra and Brian Haines; five great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Jessica, Matthew and Trenton; and sister, Delsie Kelbaugh of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Her daughter, Janet Haines and brother, Harold Shockey, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Mark, Saundra, Jeffrey and Jonathan Feaster, Philip Haines, Joseph Janesh, Keith Brokaw and Matthew Tasker.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, at Braddock Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. James A Hewitt III officiating. Interment will be in Green Way Cemetery Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
