Matthew F. Carroll, 50 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his home.

Matt was born in 1974 in Arlington, VA, the son of Flora Carroll and the late Roger Carroll. He was a graduate of Yorktown High School in Arlington, VA. For the last 20+ years he was self-employed as a Real Estate Investor.

All people die, but not all people live. Matt loved to travel. Having been to all 50 states, countless RV trips, and exploring the world with his family and friends.

Throughout his life he loved to camp, go for country rides, and tell jokes. He always wanted to see if he could make you smile. He had attributes that would put you at ease. Matt was married to the love of his life for 29 years. He was there for his family, always checking in on everyone around him.

He is survived by his wife, Patty whom he married on September 30, 1995, daughter, Elizabeth Carroll, son, Patrick Carroll and sister, Jennifer Nicol (William).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.

Lastly, as Matt would always say when speaking with you, “keep fighting the fight and living the dream.”

The service will be private, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Matt was my landlord for a little over a year. If I could say anything about this man is that he had the kindest heart and was such a light in life. Countless times he came to collect rent, we would just talk and he'd crack jokes to keep me in good spirits. He was such a good landlord, always making sure his tenants were well taken care of and such a good person to truly get to know. He will be missed, dearly.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. So very sorry for your loss. The Rogers Family.

We recently heard about Matt’s passing. I was so sad after hearing this and wanted to send our deepest sympathies to Patty, Patrick and Elizabeth. Matt was a great friend to Ron and they spoke weekly. What a wonderful husband, father and friend he was. He will be greatly missed by so many. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Patty my heart breaks for you all. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Matt is how much he loved you. Sending our love and prayers for peace and healing.

My condolences to you and your family, Matt was one of a kind. He was funny and always had a smile. He cared about his community. My best memory of Matt . One day walking my dog he stopped to say hello, we chatted. He began to drive away and said you better pick that up. I pick up the white envelope . I open it and now I can say how it must feel to hit the lottery. That was how Matt made people feel.

Matt, the world was a better place with you here. You will be sorely missed. We have so many fond memories of you with your precious family that will live on in our hearts. You truly made everyone you met feel at ease and gave them something to laugh about. Patty, Patrick, Elizabeth, our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. Matt loved each of beyond words. He spoke often about how proud he was of each of you and how much he adored you all. We pray blessings of peace and comfort over you for the days and weeks ahead. Mrs Carroll I'm Soo shocked and saddened to hear. I'm sorry I attempted to leave a message on his cell. Forgive me. He was always a gentleman and a good business man to me. He always made me smile. My thoughts are with you, your family and friends. Sending hugs.

Anne and I are so incredibly sad about losing Matt. Matt and Patty and the kids were our wonderful next-door-neighbors for a few years in Stonebrook. Matt was kind, outgoing, charming, and incredibly smart. We never saw Matt without a big smile on his face. Matt even guest-lectured on real-estate and finance to my business students at SU. We loved his amazing sense of humor and passion for life. Our most heartfelt sympathies to Patty and the kids. We will miss Matt immensely.

Patty, my heart goes out to you and your children. Greg and I were your parent’s neighbor and our kids (Matty, Emma and Gigi) loved it when you and Matt came over. He was so funny and lite up the room with laughter. Matt will be missed!

Matt was a fantastic friend, a wonderful business partner and really more of a little brother than anything. So many adventures, memories and stories I can't even begin to count. Without a doubt, he was the most creative, talented, hard-working person I've ever met. But even better, he was kind, caring, ever helpful, smiling, laughing and generous to a fault. He is gone far too soon and completely irreplaceable. I miss Matt, I love him and always will. Sending prayers and much love to his family.

I am so sorry to see this. I only became friends with Matt in the last 2 years. He was a GREAT guy. Always friendly and personable. A very interesting person who always took time to stop & check to see how I was doing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace. I will miss seeing him as well as the Winchester Community.

Uncle Matt was larger than life; someone who everyone knew and was lucky to know. It's nearly impossible to describe Uncle Matt in any one paragraph because of how large his personality was, but in a nutshell, he was damn funny, generous, and one of the best story tellers I've known. Most of my fondest memories from childhood include him. I'll never forget his boisterous laugh, how there was never a quiet moment with him, his never-ending jokes, and how he made every situation a fun one. Our relationship had just begun to change from one where he was not only an uncle, but also a man I could talk to as an adult and whose friendship I cherished. I'll miss the frequent, out of the blue text messages, pictures, and stories. Rest peacefully, Uncle Matt. I love you forever.
