Mary V. Compton
Mary Virginia Compton, 63, of Stephens City, VA, formerly of Columbia, MD, passed peacefully into Heaven on October 1st 2015 at the home of her sister in Martinsburg, WV after a Ten Year Battle with Cancer.
Mary was born on April 15th, 1952 at Winchester Memorial Hospital, the youngest daughter of the late Walter Glen Compton and Hilda Marcella Compton (Pence). Mary Graduated from Potomac Senior High School in 1970. Mary worked in Maryland for the Phone Company through the various incarnations of AT&T, C&P, Bell Atlantic, Lucent Technologies, and Avaya. After more than 30 years of dedicated service Mary retired to Virginia where she became a full-time caregiver for her late Mother. Mary is remembered fondly by former co-workers as one of the most hardworking yet compassionate managers they ever worked with. Her commitment to her profession and those she worked with was beyond compare.
Surviving is her only Son; James Glen Compton, Sr. (Heather) of Martinsburg, WV, and four beloved sisters; Beverly Ann McDonald (Danny) of Clearbrook, VA, Peggy Jo Corrado of St. Leonard, MD, Alice Lou Compton (Frankie Ritenour) of Middletown, VA, and Nancy Marie Lusby (John), of Martinsburg, WV. Mary had one Grandson, James Glen Compton, Jr., whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her Brother, Edwin Francis Compton. Mary’s selflessness and devotion to her family will never be forgotten. Mary was the youngest of her siblings, but provided the matriarchal foundation for which we all stood upon.
