Granny was born in 1939, in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Mary F. and Carlton L. Ramey, Sr. She was a graduate of James Wood High School in Frederick County. Mrs. Rissler was employed as a chief operator with C&P Telephone Company until her son was born. She stayed home with him as a young child and then went to work for FEMA part time. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winchester. Mrs. Rissler was an avid bowler and several years she had bowled in three leagues, each team becoming league champions at different points in time. She played fast-pitch softball for the only women’s team in the area in 1959, 1960 and 1961 with the F&M Bank team, becoming State Champions. Mrs. Rissler was the scorekeeper and team mom for her son’s team when her husband, Tom, was the little league coach. When Tom began coaching women’s slow-pitch softball, she became the scorekeeper and a part-time player covering any player that couldn’t play the full game…this is where she got the nickname “Granny”. She was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Shenandoah Region. She would often help Tom with his hobby involving the antique car flea markets in Carlisle and Hershey, Pennsylvania, staying for the duration of the event. Mrs. Rissler traveled quite a bit with her family and friends and spent much time on tours with their own antique cars. Granny greatly enjoyed camping with her family and friends for the summers.
She married Thomas “Riss” Wager Rissler on December 10, 1960, at Montague Avenue United Methodist Church in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with her husband is their son, Robert T. Rissler and his wife, Judi; grandson, Benjamin “Ben” T. Rissler; brothers, Donald Ramey and Philip Conley Ramey (Sue); sister in law, Linda Ramey (Buddy’s wife), all of Winchester. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Rissler is preceded in death by a brother, Carlton “Buddy” L. Ramey, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Kenneth Patrick and Mr. David A. Owings officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel, followed by the graveside service at 2:30 PM in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
