Mary Katherine Baker, 39, of Winchester, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2018, at the Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville, West Virginia. During the last 14 months “Katie” fought a courageous battle against the Lymphoma that returned after three years in remission. She was born June 5, 1979, in Winchester. Her childhood years were spent in Slanesville, West Virginia.
She is survived by her husband, Shawn Baker; and their infant son, Will; her parents, Patricia and William Glenn Heavner, Jr.; her brothers, Benjamin and Jacob (Amanda) Heavner; nephew, C.J.; several aunts and uncles and many cousins. She is also survived by her in-laws, Danny and Connie Baker of North Carolina.
Many people will remember her as a friendly Optician at the Walmart Vision Center where she was known as Mary or Kate or Katie. She was a long-time member of the Clarke County band and served as their librarian for many years.
Her memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Opequon Presbyterian Church, Winchester. The gathering of friends and family will begin an hour prior to the service.
