Mary Francis Carter, 95, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2015. She was born in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, on March 18, 1920, one of eight children born to Mae and Tarcey Unger.
She was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church and a loyal employee of National Fruit Products until her retirement in 1985.
She is survived by her younger sister, Lola Rinker; son, Bobby Carter, granddaughter, Nicole Carter Seveke; nieces, Betty Alabaugh, Linda White, Brenda Norland, Marsha Lange, Cindy Zinser, Suzi Goodman, Judy Frabel, Gail Solenberger, Jody Hawse and her nephews, Gary Unger, Floyd Unger, Jimmy Unger, Dayton Dawson, Jr., John Unger, Greg Unger, Burch Rinker and Ronnie Rinker.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Carter, a sister, Catherine Dawson and five brothers, Fred Unger, Charles Vernon Unger, Junior Lee Unger, Samuel “Sam” Unger and Dennis Unger.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Interment will be private.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her caregiver, Debbie Polsky and her family, for their kindness and constant care over the past 6 years and to the staff of Blue Ridge Hospice.
