Mary Elizabeth “Bettye” Stirn, age 70, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, after a courageous seven-year battle with Multiple System Atrophy. Born on May 17, 1954, in Louisville, KY, to William Sylvester and Margaret Doris Hoskins. Bettye lived a life filled with love, laughter, and many cherished friendships.
Bettye was a devoted mother to Rachel Deavers (Nathan) and Anna Kemp (Brian) and the proud grandmother to Sophia Kemp, Chase Kemp and Hannah Deavers. She was a loving stepmother to Larry S. Stirn (Partei), Terry L. Lesko (Andrew), Michael L. Stirn (Linda), Bryan K. Stirn (Sharon) and Kelly L. Stauffer. Bettye was a dear sister to Anne Minor and a beloved cousin, who was like a sister, to Mary Ann Lewis (Bob). She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews who adored her.
Bettye spent many years in Woodbine, MD, raising her daughters with her first husband, with whom she maintained a life-long friendship, Russell J. Harrison. Later, she spent many happy years with her second husband, Lee Stirn, in Ellicott City, MD. Most recently, Bettye lived in Winchester, VA, where she was a faithful member of Opequon Presbyterian Church, touching the lives of many with her kind heart and warm spirit.
Bettye had a long career as a teller and Customer Service Representative at Westminster Union, PNC, Susquehanna, and BB&T banks. For many years community members came to depend on seeing Bettye at the bank, and on her humor and kindness when they encountered her. Outside of work, she enjoyed thrift-store and antique shopping, playing Yahtzee and card games and hosting gatherings filled with laughter. Known as the life of every party, Bettye’s radiant personality brought people together and left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her parents William and Doris Hoskins, and her beloved husband, Lee Stirn.
A celebration of Bettye’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst St., Winchester, VA.

Bettye’s unwavering love for her family and friends, along with her infectious humor will remain a treasured memory for all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
