Marvin O. Hoffman, Sr.
Marvin Owen Hoffman, Sr., 85, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Monday, January 9, 2012, in the home of his daughter, Barbara Larrick.
Mr. Hoffman was born the third of ten children in 1926, in Gordonsville, Virginia, the son of the late Chauncey Owen and Daisy Lee Hoffman. He was a Foreman, Welder and Storeroom Manager with Washington Gas and Light retiring in 1984. Mr. Hoffman was a former member of the Winchester Eagles Aerie 824 and Moose Lodge #1283. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea during which he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Service Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He also received the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nation Korean Service Medal. He achieved the rank of E-3 Shipfitter.
His wife, Mary Elizabeth Marshall Hoffman, whom he married on November 26, 1947, in Gordonsville, Virginia, preceded him in death on May 30, 1987.
Surviving are four daughters, Linda Marie Painter of Winchester, Carolyn Sue Painter and Patricia Ann Hall, both of Woodstock, Virginia, Barbara Jean Larrick of Winchester; two sons, Marvin Owen Hoffman, Jr., of Topton, Pennsylvania and Bruce Wayne Hoffman of Winchester; nine grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Louise Hendrick and Barbara Lee Shortridge both of Richmond, Virginia, Patty Marie Blount of Lake Placid, Florida; and two brothers, Glenn Hoffman of Charlottesville, Virginia and James Edward Hoffman of Gordonsville, Virginia.
Three sisters, Lorraine Mason Hartsook, Peggy Ann Thacker, Mae Gertrude Hartsook and one brother, Clifford E. Hoffman, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Larry Veach officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, with military honors accorded by VFW Post 2123.
Pallbearers will be John Allen Newlin, Phil Spaid, Emmett Morgan and Randy Larrick.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
