Mr. Marion Leach “Bill” White, 96, of Winchester, VA, died Thursday, December 25, 2014, at his residence.

Bill was born in 1918, in Fauquier County, Rectortown, Virginia, the son of the late Walter S. and Mildred J. Leach White.  He attended Marshall High School, Marshall, VA and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 serving in WWII, working with radar in N. Africa and Italy for the duration of the war.  Bill achieved the rank of Staff Sgt. and was recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.  He was a faithful member of Upperville Baptist Church for over 50 years, having served on the Board of Deacons and Chairman as well.  Bill was also Assistant Sunday School Director and Treasurer.  He worked 30 years as Assistant Farm Manager at Rokeby Farm in Upperville, VA.  After retirement from the farm Bill continued to work part-time for 11 years at Carpers Valley Golf Course.

His wife, Elizabeth Thompson, whom he married on April 27, 1943 in Upperville, VA preceded him in death in 1991.

Surviving is a daughter, Mildred Ann Sudduth, Winchester, VA; son, Marion Lee White and wife Sharon, Atoka, VA; grandchildren, Tim Sudduth, Winchester, VA, Morgan White and Sean White, both of Covington, KY.

Mr. White was preceded in death by sisters, Viola R. White and Margaret W. Butler; brothers, E. Stuart White and Melton C. White.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Upperville Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Thigpen officiating.  Interment will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Upperville, VA.

Pallbearers will be Richard Thomas, Ron Embrey, Joseph Embrey, Steve Cook, James Triplett, Jr., Mark Oliver, Paul Hinson, and William Rose. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Ollie Thompson, J.P. Triplett, Sr.,  George Shaffer, Daniel Rose, and Charles Payne.
