Margaret Ann Woodward Payne Runion
Margaret Ann Woodward Payne Runion, 83, of Winchester, VA, died Saturday, April 4, 2015 in Blue Ridge Residential Center surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Runion was born in 1932 in Chattanooga, TN, the daughter of the late William Woodward and Margaret Aiken Bray. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Mrs. Runion was a Physical Education teacher with the Frederick County School system from 1963 until her retirement in 1988. She was a sponsor of the James Wood High School Class of 1965, as well as the coach for the JV Cheerleading Team. For the past 8 years, due to Alzheimer’s, Mrs. Runion thoroughly enjoyed going to the Adult Care Center every week where so many special people made her life more fulfilling. These special people held a very special place in her heart.
Mrs. Runion married Richard Runion on April 3, 2009 in Winchester, VA.
Surviving with her husband are four children she raised, Wanda Payne Jacquis of CA, Phyllis Payne Cooke (Matthew) of Gainesville, VA, Marissa Jacquis Sheffield (Shane) of Winchester, VA and Stephen H. Payne (Elaine) of Martinsburg, WV. Also surviving are step-sons Richard L. Runion, II of NV, Kevin P. Runion of Harrisonburg, VA, Phillip S. Runion (Jodi) of Martinsburg, WV, Damon A. Runion of TX, and John V. Runion of Reston, VA; brother, Ralph Woodward of Soddy Daisy, TN; thirteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday with Celebrant Joseph Dilleree officiating at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Adult Care Center, 411 N. Cameron Street, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
