Madeline Ann Heatwole Stewart
Mrs. Madeline Ann Heatwole Stewart, age 85, of Winchester, VA, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Stewart was born in 1926 in Rockingham County, VA, the daughter of the late Leonard and Nora Trumbo Heatwole. She was a homemaker and formerly taught at Handley High School. Mrs. Stewart was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and was an active member of Women of the Church. She was a long-time member of the Old Fredericktown Garden Club. Mrs. Stewart also was a former volunteer for the Apple Blossom Festival, and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at Winchester Medical Center.
She was a graduate of James Madison University.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Donald William Stewart, whom she married on June 23, 1951 in Mt. Clinton, VA.
Also surviving are three daughters, Ann Stewart Smallwood and her husband Donald E. Smallwood, Jr. of Amherst, New Hampshire, Donna Lee Stewart Crawford and her husband, William R. Crawford of Isle of Palms, SC, and Margaret Stewart Hannon of Winchester, VA; four grandchildren, Tripp Smallwood, Stewart Smallwood, Byron Hannon, and Trevor Hannon; one great grandson, Beckham Smallwood, and a sister, Sarah Heatwole Reynard of Los Altos, CA.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 20, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Rich Reifsnyder officiating, with a reception following the service. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 6:30 until 8:30 PM.
