Louis Townsend Moreland, Jr., 72, of Cross Junction, Virginia, died Monday, March 24, 2014, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Moreland was born in Berryville, Virginia, at home on the Moreland Farm, in 1941, the son of the late Louis Townsend and Alice Virginia Moreland, Sr. He was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1960 and of Lord Fairfax Community College receiving an Associate Degree in Business. Mr. Moreland was a veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict on the DMZ. He achieved the rank of E-5. Also known as “Louie”, “LT” or “Landfill Lou” he was a Maintenance Supervisor with Rubbermaid for over 32 years, later working at the Frederick County Landfill. He never really “retired” and worked part time for Frederick County.
He was a member of NSSA (North South Skirmish Association); past member of the 2nd VA Voluntary Infantry; 5th VA Voluntary Infantry; ending his NSSA membership with the 6th regiment Alabama Infantry “Raccoon Ruffs”. He was a member of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) known as “Lethal Lou” he was a shooter. Included in the group of Daniel Morgan Rifleman, he was in and helped establish the first Frederick County Reserve Deputy Sheriffs group in 1996. He was a Master Mason of the Winchester Hiram Lodge, #21, A.F. & A.M. He was the past Post Commander of VFW Post 4019, Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
He married Donna Marie Mitchener on October 6, 1987, in Frederick County, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife, is his daughter, Geana Louise Painter of Gainesboro, Virginia; three grandchildren, Jared Thomas Painter, Matthew Leedy Painter, Abigale Grace Louise Painter; and his brother, Dale Moreland and wife, Desiree, of Winchester, Virginia; and his former wife, Georgene Howard Hypes.
One brother, Jerry Moreland, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends, acquaintances, co-workers, and all are welcome on Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 6-8 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
