Mr. Presley was born in 1936 in Davenport, Virginia, the son of the late Orba Presley and Ethel Kidd; stepson of the late Edward Kidd. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Sonny was a welder for Fruit Growers Express Company (a railroad company), retiring in 1977. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and playing the guitar, “pickin and grinnin”, and also loved being outdoors, especially when he was trout fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Sonny married Barbara J. Presley on August 5, 1967 in Cumberland, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife of 50 years is a daughter, Karla P. Mason; a son, Kevin W. Presley; granddaughter, Lindsey K. Mason; sisters, Linda Smith, Mary Kegley (Jerry), and Deborah Williamson (Rick); brothers, Victor Presley (Irene), Ferrell “Leon” Presley (Martha), Jack Presley, and Jerry Presley (Joyce); and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and stepfather, Sonny was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Sullivan, Sandra Jackson, and Patsy Presley; brother-in-law, Ronald Smith; and sister-in-law, Lorene Presley.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A graveside service will be at 1 pm on Saturday at Fort Ashby Cemetery, Fort Ashby, West Virginia with Reverend Martha Reynolds officiating.
