Lawrence J. Hayes
Lawrence Joseph “Larry” Hayes, age 76, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Hayes was born in 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Lawrence Joseph and Helen Hayes. He was a 1955 graduate of Cathedral Latin High School, as well as Fenn Technical College. Mr. Hayes was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army Reserves. Larry was a mechanical engineer with Volvo Truck America, retiring March 1, 2005. He was an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He will be forever remembered for his love of Notre Dame Football.
He married Barbara (Rita) Nowak on October 30, 1965 in Cleveland, Ohio. Larry and Rita renewed their wedding vows after 48 years of marriage on January 27, 2014.
Surviving with his wife are daughters Kelly Madden and husband, Kevin of Clifton, Virginia, and Kerry Whitlock and husband, Guy of Alexandria, Virginia, and two grandchildren, Brady and Delaney Madden; as well as five sisters and two brothers.
A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 130 Keating Drive, Winchester, Virginia, 22601, with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Military Honors will be afforded by the V.F.W. Post # 2123. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in the memory of Mr. Hayes may be made to a church or charity of the donor’s choice or to the Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavilion at Johns Hopkins, 301 North Broadway, Baltimore, Maryland 21231.
