Larry Everette Updike, 74, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Updike was born in 1946, in Warren County, Virginia, the son of the late Fannie Mabel and Sherman Everette Updike. He was a graduate of Warren County High School. Mr. Updike was a retired self-employed painter.
Mr. Updike was an avid Washington Redskins fan and loved the Winchester Speedway, especially going to races. He enjoyed dining at Golden Corral with his friends and family. Mr. Updike enjoyed all types of music particularly bluegrass and old-time Rock n Roll, owning an impressive record collection. He enjoyed dancing, fishing expeditions and traveling, going wherever the Schrock buses would travel. He was known for being a “walking history book” referring to his love of history.
He married Delores Johnson and she preceded him in death in 2021.
Surviving are his daughters, Jennifer “Nicky” Nicole Hawes (Warren) of Frederick County, VA, Melissa Dawn Smith (Jerry) of Front Royal, VA; grandchildren, Megan Andrews, Kailey Carlyle, Troy Smith; great grandchildren Chevy See Eastin Andrews and One on the way; sister, Delores Gay Updike of Winchester, VA and brother, Glenn Allen Updike (Genene) of Springfield, WV.
Along with his parents and wife he is preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte “Susie” Ann Updike.
Pallbearers will be Chris Rutherford, Woody Smith, Sammy Smith, Kenny Bragg, Bradly Berry, Warren Hawes (Amy McDonald). Honorary pallbearers will be Chip Creel, Doug Baker and Bill Weaver.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. A graveside service will be Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 12pm in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
