Larry was born to Kenneth Noble and Goldie Elkin North in Spokane, WA, in 1947. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, including one tour in Vietnam. He earned an Associate Degree from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, and attended Eastern Washington State College (now Eastern Washington University) in Cheney, WA.
Larry worked in retail sales, retail management, and insurance sales, most recently with Central Atlantic Insurance Services in Winchester, VA, specializing in Annuities, Life Insurance, and Medicare. He previously worked for Standard Insurance Company in their Spokane, WA, branch during the 1980s. Larry was also a sales representative for Shade Equipment Company, Inc. in Winchester, VA, from the late 1980s into the 1990s.
Larry loved to be surrounded by his family, particularly his grandsons who were the joy of his life. From watching them on the field, the court, and the track to hitting golf balls in the backyard, he cherished every moment with Rory, Kellan, and Logan. He also adored his son, his daughter, and his son-in-law; he was extremely proud of Ryan, Lauren, and Josh. For 41 years, Larry and his wife Cindy shared everything from spending time in warmer climates to unconditionally supporting each other on life’s journey.
In addition to spending time with his family, Larry’s favorite pastime was golf, spanning a 50-year period. He enjoyed tournament play but especially treasured playing with his friends every Monday, Thursday, Saturday, and many times in-between. Larry played golf courses stretching from the Pukalani Country Club in Maui to the Old Course at St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland. It was his true passion.
Larry volunteered his time as a baseball and softball coach at the Little League and Pony League levels, enabling his Pony League team to take 5th place in the 1983 World Series. He also coached his daughter’s softball and his son’s baseball teams.
He was an active member of Stephens City United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. He was instrumental in helping to launch the existing Stephens City United Methodist Church Day Care Center.
Larry is survived by his wife, Cynthia Boyce North, whom he married on June 28, 1980, his daughter Lauren North DiSalvo, son-in-law Joshua DiSalvo, and grandsons Rory, Kellan and Logan DiSalvo. He is also survived by two sisters, Judith Miller (Kenneth) and Candy Hoksbergen (George), sister-in-law Donna Forrester, and numerous nieces and nephews.
